BEACON HILL

We transformed this Beacon Hill residence by reinterpreting its early 1900s architecture through a refined contemporary lens. The renovation focused on preserving the home’s historic character while distilling traditional forms into a cleaner, more streamlined expression. The result is an evolved traditional aesthetic that balances craftsmanship, proportion and modern functionality.

The redesign began with opening the entry and removing faux columns to restore architectural integrity and improve circulation. In the grand sitting and dining room, integrated bookcases were rebuilt with simplified moldings, and a sculpted wood fireplace surround was introduced as a quiet focal point. The room now accommodates a grand piano and chess table, reinforcing a sense of timeless living within a refreshed architectural envelope.

The kitchen became a light filled central hub with a large eat in island, concealed pantry and custom cabinetry that subtly references historic millwork in a more modern form. Bathrooms were reimagined as serene retreats with radiant heated floors, sculptural tubs, classic tilework and layouts that maximise space while maintaining calm, understated luxury.

New laundry facilities, improved storage and refined circulation support daily life without compromising the home’s traditional charm. A cohesive palette and layered textures unify the rooms, allowing each space to feel connected and thoughtfully resolved.

The completed residence honors its early twentieth century heritage while embracing contemporary clarity. It is a sophisticated reinterpretation of tradition that celebrates proportion, craftsmanship and enduring elegance. This project received an IDA Honorable Mention recognizing its sensitive and cohesive transformation.
